NaNoWriMo Tip #16: Track Your Progress



These are my personal tips for NaNoWriMo. You know the drill. Take only what works.

NaNoWriMo is a great time to kick yourself in the butt and track your progress. When you sit down each day, take a few seconds to note some things down. Same goes about when you stop. Use a timer as well as a clock.

TIME when you sit down:
TIME when you begin writing (if different):
After each hour, note wordcount:
TIME when you stop:
WORD COUNT:

Do this every time you sit down.

After a week, look for patterns. When you best (most and fastest) work? Do you write better if you write longer? Do you frequently interrupt yourself to check twitter, Facebook or other non-writing things?

Also, don't forget to reward yourself for each step. One of the single most powerful ways to motivate yourself to achievement is to have a sense of progress:
